The Peter L. Slavin, MD Academy for Applied Learning in Health Care
Education has been a pillar of Massachusetts General Hospital's mission since it's 1811 charter. Our founders recognized that better education led to better health care, laying the very foundation of the modern teaching hospital. For over 200 years the Ether Dome, the original Mass General teaching amphitheater, has stood as an ongoing reminder of our joint education and patient care missions. And for the last century, the New England Journal of Medicine has featured the "Case Records of the Massachusetts General Hospital" as an enduring standard in the education of health care providers worldwide.
Building on such a remarkable legacy, The Peter L. Slavin, MD Academy for Applied Learning in Health Care was founded to serve as an inclusive home for teaching and learning across the health professions. Part of a bold new plan to "Re-Imagine the Ether Dome" into the 21st century, the Slavin Academy serves as an organizational hub for our shared education mission, and as a collaborative resource to support our integrated community of learning.
